Makai the nameMakai Glass features unique glass blown sculptures inspired by the sea and volcanic formations of the Hawaiian Islands. Artists Justin Brown and Randy Schaffer and their team of glass artist create each glass piece with the “breath of aloha”, infusing it with their love for the islands and its inhabitants. Each hand-sculpted piece carries its own unique, magical quality that illuminates with the Hawaiian essence wherever showcased.

Feel the spirit again and again by preserving your memory of the islands through Makai Glass.

Our name, MAKAI

The name “MAKAI” is Hawaiian and was chosen for its meaning, “toward the sea” or “ocean side”. It’s symbolic to the Artists because of their attraction to the island of Maui and their adoration of its mystical sea life and wave formations. It also incorporates the idea of movement, flow and reflection, which are all characteristics of glass and its evolution from hot molten lava-like fluid to the smooth, perfected piece you see today. Justin and Randy want you to feel drawn “toward their sea” of glass art, as one is drawn to the mysteries and beauty of the ocean.

Makai’s Hot Shop and Studio is Maui’s HOTTEST and LARGEST New Glass Blowing Attraction!

Team Makai is making EXTRAORDINARY glass pieces in their new studio– but this is only the beginning! We now have a beautiful new glass gallery that is full of our pieces and open for you to explore. Visit our new gallery and be awed by glass sculptures of Maui’s most prized inhabitants and land formations. Then sit back and relax in our illumination dark room as our pieces come to life over our high intensity LED light bases.

Our vision is to have several stations for glass blowing, a public viewing area along with an upper deck VIP viewing area, and a gallery for purchasing…but for now you can stop in Monday – Friday to say hello and watch them work their magic towards making this dream come true! The pieces you see them make here will be part of their dazzling glass display at their next craft show or onsite in their new gallery.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Here Justin perfects placement of this whale's life-like eye. These hand sculpted Humpback Whales are featured in Makai's Migration Series
